What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are ultra-thin, tooth-colored shells of porcelain that are placed over the front-facing surfaces of the teeth to cover up cosmetic flaws. They are able to mask a wide array of aesthetic imperfections, including:
The Process of Getting Veneers

After a comprehensive exam, we will develop a cosmetic plan to improve your smile’s appearance. Veneers are long-lasting, stain resistant, and require only two visits for the complete treatment. During your first visit, your teeth will be prepared. A small amount of your tooth enamel will need to be removed from the front surface of your teeth to make room for your restoration. You’ll leave the first appointment with a set of temporary veneers while your custom final veneers are being crafted at a lab. When your final veneers are ready, you can return to the practice where we will adhere them to your teeth.
We custom craft each patient’s veneers, meaning that you can choose the shape, color, and style that best compliments your appearance and the image you want to achieve. We only use daVinci veneers from daVinci Dental Studio because of their extraordinary quality and exquisite appearance. Their durability is second to none and we are proud to have them as our exclusive partner for cosmetic dental procedures.

Veneers FAQs
Are Veneers Permanent?
Veneers are considered a long-term solution, but they aren't technically permanent. With proper care, most veneers last between 10 and 15 years before needing to be replaced. However, because a small amount of enamel is removed during placement, the procedure is irreversible. This means you'll always need some type of restoration on that tooth.
At Imagine Smiles, we use high-quality porcelain veneers designed for durability, beauty, and a natural appearance. With regular dental visits and good oral hygiene, your veneers can stay strong and stunning for many years to come.
Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?
Some patients notice a slight lisp when they first get veneers, especially if they slightly change the length or thickness of their front teeth. However, this is usually temporary. Your tongue will quickly adapt to the new shape of your teeth, and any speech issues typically resolve within a few days.
When we design your veneers at our Blaine dental office, we take extra care to ensure they’re crafted to match your natural bite to reduce their presence in your mouth. If you notice a lisp and it sticks around after a few weeks, we’re happy to make adjustments for you.
Can Veneers Be Used for Bite Corrections?
Veneers are primarily cosmetic and not designed to correct serious bite issues like overbites or underbites. However, they can help improve the appearance of minor bite issues and even reduce alignment-related jaw pain by reshaping or lengthening certain teeth.
For patients with mild bite concerns, veneers placed at our Blaine practice can create the look of a straighter, more balanced smile. If your bite is an issue that affects your oral health, we may recommend orthodontic treatment first. During your consultation, we’ll help you decide the best path forward based on your needs and goals.
Can You Whiten Veneers?
Unfortunately, veneers cannot be whitened with traditional products because they’re made of non-porous materials like porcelain. If your veneers become stained or appear dull over time, professional cleaning and polishing can help restore their brightness.
At Imagine Smiles, we recommend whitening your natural teeth before getting veneers to ensure a perfect color match. If you're unhappy with the color of older veneers, replacement may be the best option. Our team can evaluate your teeth and help you find the right solution to keep your smile sparkling.
